India Surpasses Previous Best Medal Haul at Asian Para Games 2023: 97 Medals and Counting

Hangzhou: In the ongoing Asian Para Games in Hangzhou, India has achieved an impressive milestone with a total of 97 medals, surpassing its previous best of 72 medals from the 2018 edition in Indonesia. The medal haul includes 25 gold, 29 silver, and 43 bronze.

Sheetal Devi commenced the day by securing a gold medal in the Archery compound open event. In men’s doubles SL3-SL4 badminton, the Indian duo of Nitesh Kumar and Tarun claimed the gold. Suhas Yathiraj, an enthusiastic IAS officer, clinched gold in the men’s singles SL-4 category. In the men’s Badminton singles SL3 event, India displayed dominance with Pramod Bhagat winning gold and Nitesh Kumar earning the silver. In the Badminton women’s singles SU5 category, Thulasimathi clinched gold by defeating China’s Quixia Yang.

The athletic achievements continued with Raman Sharma securing gold in the men’s 1500m T-38 event and Devendra Kumar clinching gold in the men’s F64 discus throw event. Archer Rakesh Kumar achieved a brilliant silver in the Men’s Individual Compound Archery event. Chirag Baretha and Rajkumar settled for silver in men’s doubles SU5 badminton, while Krishna Nagar bagged a silver in the Badminton men’s singles SH6 category.

Lakshmi secured a bronze in the discus throw F37/38 event with a throw of 22.55 meters. In the men’s javelin throw F-54 event, India excelled with Pradeep Kumar earning a silver and Abhishek Chamoli securing bronze with a toss of 25.04 meters. Additionally, Laxit in the F-54 category obtained the bronze.

The Indian contingent is determined to maintain its winning streak in various sports, including Lawn Bowl, Athletics, Archery, Badminton, Swimming, Shooting, Chess, Cycling, Powerlifting, and Table Tennis.

Yesterday, Indian athletes contributed significantly to the medal tally by winning a total of 18 medals, including three gold, three silver, and 12 bronze.
