Jharkhand Ex-CM Champai Soren Joins BJP in Ranchi

Ranchi: Jharkhand’s former Chief Minister Champai Soren, who quit the JMM two days back, formally joined the BJP on Friday.

In the presence of Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma at a ceremony organized in Ranchi, the former JMM leader along with his supporters embraced the saffron fold.

His inclusion in the BJP is being considered as booster for the saffron party’s efforts to make inroads into the Scheduled Tribes, a community which has been the main voter base of the JMM.

Champai Soren was a close aide of JMM supremo Shibu Soren.

He got the nickname ‘Jharkhand’s Tiger’ for his contribution to the fight to create a separate state in the 1990s.
