Killer Wolves Kill Toddler, Injure 3 Others in UP’s Bahraich, Continuing Their Terror

Lucknow: The pack of killer wolves attacked and killed a two-year-old girl and injured three others in Uttar Pradesh’s Bahraich.

The recent attacks occurred despite patrolling by forest officials in the area. The girl, identified as Anjali, was attacked and killed by the man-eater wolves on Monday. The three injured included a seven-year-old child. The injured have been hospitalized.

One of these injured, Kamala Devi faced the wolf attack while she had gone to the toilet at around 11.30 pm on Sunday. The wolf injured her neck and back. When she screamed, the wolf escaped.

Speaking to reporters, Monika Rani, the District Magistrate of Bahraich, urged people to remain alert and sleep indoors in the wake of the ongoing wolf attacks.

UP forest department claims that four out of the pack of six wolves involved in the attacks on humans have been caught through ‘Operation Bhediya’. Efforts are on to catch the remaining wolves of the pack.

At least 35 villages in Bahraich are on high alert as this pack of killer wolves has killed eight children and a woman in the past six weeks.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has released an advisory following the wolf attacks.

“Required steps should be taken to catch the wolves at all costs. As per the instructions given earlier, the administration, police, forest department, local panchayat, and revenue department should create widespread public awareness in the area,” the CM said in the advisory.

“People should also be told about safety measures. The cooperation of public representatives should also be taken in this,” he added.

Additional personnel from the forest department are deployed in Bahraich, Sitapur, Lakhimpur, Pilibhit, Bijnor and other districts. The Chief Minister said in the directive that senior officers should camp in the districts.
