Kingpin of Balasore Bank Robbery Arrested from WB, Gold Worth Rs 49 Lakh Seized

Balasore: A mastermind of the robbery of cash and gold ornaments from Union Bank at Chandaneswar on April 26 was arrested by Balasore police from North 24 Parganas of West Bengal. Police have recovered around 854 grams of gold worth Rs 49 lakh from the accused.

With his arrest, a total of 14 persons have been nabbed in connection to this major bank robbery. According to Balasore SP Sagarika Nath, four persons had masterminded the entire incident.

This gang of bank robbers was involved in at least two similar cases in Basta, one in Bhograi and east and west Medinipur areas.

This bank robbery gang operates in border areas of Odisha and West Bengal. They targeted banks and jewelry shops.

On July 5, Balasore Police had arrested six accused involved in the bank dacoity case with recovery of Rs 6 lakh and 300 grams of gold ornaments worth Rs 15 lakh.

Seven more accused of the bank robbery case have been identified. Efforts are on to nab them.
