Man Arrested With 2 Sons for Impersonating as Govt Officer to Get Into Ranji Team

Kanpur: UP police arrested two youths along with their father in Kanpur on Monday for allegedly impersonating as the chief secretary of the state to force cricket selectors to pick the elder son for the UP state Ranji Trophy team.

The arrested persons included Atal Mishra, his elder son Ishant Mishra, and his younger son Ansh. They resorted to this impersonation to get Ishant selected into the Ranji team.

According to police sources, Ansh sent a WhatsApp message to the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA) Secretary Praveen Gupta claiming to be the Chief Secretary. The message asked the UPCA secretary to select Ishant Mishra for the Ranji team. Kanpur Police investigated the matter and arrested Ishant, Ansh and their father Atal on Monday for impersonation, forgery and criminal conspiracy.
