Maoist Death Toll in Chhattisgarh Encounter Rises to 13

Raipur: Three more bodies of slain Maoists were discovered on Wednesday morning in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district, where an exchange of fire occurred between the security personnel and Naxalites on Tuesday morning.

With it, the number of Maoists slain in the encounter rose to 13.

On Tuesday, the security personnel recovered the bodies of 10 Naxalites, including a woman from the spot. During the search operation continuing in the area, the bodies of three more Maoists were recovered on Wednesday morning from a dense forest where the encounter took place.

The identity of the dead Maoists has not been confirmed. All of them belonged to the PLGA (People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army) company no. 2 of Maoists.

On Tuesday, the encounter took place at around 6 am in the forest between Lendra and Korcholi villages under the Gangaloor police station area.

A light machine gun (LMG), a .303 rifle, a 12-bore gun, a large number of barrel grenade launchers and shells, and other arms and ammunition were also seized from the spot.

Bijapur district comes under the Bastar Lok Sabha constituency, which will go to polls on April 19.
