Massive Avalanche in J&K’s Gulmarg, 1 Foreigner Dead, Another Missing

Srinagar: A massive avalanche hit upper reaches of Jammu and Kashmir’s Gulmarg on Thursday afternoon. Several tourists including foreigners are feared trapped because of this avalanche.

According to Gulmarg’s local authorities, at least one foreigner died in this avalanche, while another is still missing. A foreigner was also found to be injured. Efforts are on to locate and rescue the missing tourist.

“Around 1400 hours today, an avalanche was recorded in Gulmarg, trapping three foreigners. Tragically, one among them is dead, one injured, and one still remains missing,” DDMA Baramulla said.

This major avalanche hit the upper reaches of the ski town near Kongdoori slopes. As per reports, the foreign tourists went there without any local guide. .

The Indian Army is using helicopters for the search and rescue operation. A Jammu and Kashmir administration team along with Army personnel have rushed to the spot to search for survivors.

Visuals from Gulmarg showed some tourists stuck knee-deep in the snow.
