Mob Loots Police Armoury in Manipur, Takes Away 19000 Bullets, Weapons

Imphal: A mob broke into a police armoury at the battalion headquarters of the 2nd India Reserve Battalion (IRB) located at Naranseina in the Bishnupur district of Manipur and stole arms and ammunition.

The looted arms and ammunition included AK and ‘Ghatak’ series of assault rifles, and over 19,000 bullets of various calibers.

This mob included people who had gathered at Naranseina to march towards Churachandpur where tribals were planning to carry out a mass burial of victims killed in ethnic clashes.

According to official sources, more than 19,000 rounds of bullets of different calibers, an AK series assault rifle, three ‘Ghaatak’ rifles, 195 self-loading rifles, five MP-5 guns, 16 9mm pistols, 25 bulletproof jackets, 21 carbines, 124 hand grenades were among the items looted by the mob.

NDTV reported that armed attackers and security forces exchanged fire Koutruk, Haraothel, and Senjam Chirang areas. In Senjam Chirang, a police personnel was killed after being shot in the head by a sniper. A village volunteer was also injured in the gun battle.
