Non-Cooperation Strike by Govt Doctors in Kendrapara Protesting Police Inaction

Kendrapara: Alleging police inaction against miscreants who are threatening doctors and medical staff posted at Rajnagar Community Health Centre (CHC), the government doctors in Kendrapara district launched a ‘non-cooperation’ strike.

The medical examination of nine fishermen arrested by the Rajnagar forest department could not be held due to the ongoing dispute between the doctors and police. The nine accused were arrested for allegedly carrying out fishing activities in restricted areas of Gahirmatha on Thursday.

The agitating doctors alleged that although the threat were made a fortnight back, police have not initiated any action against the culprits despite complaints.

As part of the non-cooperation strike, the doctors are also refraining from issuing injury reports of the accused to the police. As a result, police are finding it hard to produce the accused arrested in the district before courts. in the district to court.

Despite their agitation, the doctors continued to treat the patients wearing black badges as a mark of protest.

As per reports, some miscreants allegedly abused and threatened the doctors and medical staff of the Rajnagar Community Health Centre (CHC) in Kendrapara district. A complaint was lodged with the police in this regard.

The health workers also sat on dharna demanding action against the miscreants. They ended their dharna when the local MLA assured action against the accused immediately.

But even after 16 days of the assurance, police have not taken any action, alleged the agitating doctors. So, the Odisha Medical Services Association (OMSA) unit of Kendrapara decided to take up the non-cooperation agitation against the police in Kendrapara district. OMSA has warned of state-wide agitation if Kendrapara police fail to take appropriate action soon.

Doctors are demanding arrest of six miscreants including Muna Pal and Debasis Rout who had come to the hospital and threatened the doctors at Rajnagar. The doctors are denying to treat the accused brought by police due to which the work at the court has come to a standstill.
