Odisha CM lays Foundation for Rs 4600 Cr Worth 19 Instream Storage Structures in 13 Districts

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Saturday virtually laid the foundation for 19 Instream Storage Structures in 13 districts of the state. Odisha government will spend Rs 4,600 crore for construction of these instream storage

These projects are being taken up in Bargarh, Balangir, Boudh, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Kalahandi, Keonjhar, Khurda, Puri, Sambalpur, Subarnapur and Sundergarh districts.

People of these districts attended the event virtually.

Speaking on the occasion, the CM said that farmers will be greatly benefited by this project. They will also be helpful in the field of drinking water supply, fish farming, animal husbandry etc. They will elevate the groundwater level and balance the environment and will help in flood control, he said.

The Chief Minister said that in 2020, the plan for instream storage was started with Rs 11,700 crore. So far, programmes have been prepared for 72 projects in 3 phases.

No people will be displaced by this project, Patnaik asserted.

Highlighting the various measures taken for the welfare of farmers in the state, the Chief Minister said, “Our programs like Kalia Yojana, interest-free loan facility for farmers, payment of crop insurance premium have boosted the confidence of farmers in the state. If the farmers prosper, the state will prosper. We are working for their betterment and will continue to work in the coming days.”
