Odisha Hikes Monthly Remunerations, Allowances for Civic Body Office Bearers

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday announced significant increases in the remuneration for mayors, deputy mayors, municipal council chairpersons, and vice-chairpersons in five municipal corporations across the state.

Mayors will now receive Rs 50,000 per month, up from Rs 8,000, while deputy mayors will see their monthly salary rise from Rs 5,000 to Rs 20,000.

Additionally, municipal council chairpersons’ salaries will increase from Rs 1,500 to Rs 15,000, and vice-chairpersons’ from Rs 1,200 to Rs 10,000.

The monthly gratuity for chairpersons will rise to Rs 10,000 and for vice-chairpersons to Rs 7,500.

Furthermore, the remuneration for corporators per meeting will increase from Rs 700 to Rs 2,000, and councilors’ allowance from Rs 1,500 to Rs 5,000.

Members of the Standing Committee of the Metropolitan Corporation will now receive a daily allowance of Rs 2,000 during meetings.

The Chief Minister also introduced ex-gratia assistance for elected representatives of urban areas, offering Rs 2 lakh in the event of death, Rs 2 lakh for total disability, and Rs 1 lakh for partial disability.

This initiative, to be funded by the state government, is estimated to cost Rs 4.76 crore annually.
