Odisha Set for Major Crackdown on Illegal Constructions: Minister Warns of Bulldozer Action

Bhubaneswar: Odisha is set to implement a strict crackdown on illegal constructions on government land, mirroring actions seen in states like Uttar Pradesh. Revenue Minister Suresh Pujari declared on Wednesday that the government is prepared to demolish unauthorised structures, particularly targeting those built by affluent and influential individuals.

In a significant policy shift, Pujari stressed that while previous efforts largely affected huts and small structures erected by the poor, the new drive will focus on dismantling expensive high-rise buildings and properties illegally constructed by powerful individuals and officials.

The Minister highlighted that historical records show many demolitions involving small encroachments by impoverished citizens, while more substantial violations by the wealthy were often overlooked.

The government has directed district Collectors to take immediate action against illegal encroachments in both urban and rural areas. This move aims to ensure fairness and uphold the law regardless of the violator’s social status.
