Parents of Brain Dead +2 Student Donate His Kidneys to Save 2 Lives

Cuttack: The parents of an 18-year-old +2 student, who succumbed to a brain tumour at SCB Medical College and Hospital, decided to donate his kidneys to save the lives of two persons by donating his organs.

Om Sibu, son of Ramesh Das of Pattamundai area in Kendrapara district, was diagnosed with a brain tumour and was admitted to the SCB Medical College and Hospital (SVBMCH) in Cuttack on January 17.

According to his family, Sibu was pronounced brain dead. The bereaved family made a bold decision to donate Shibu’s kidneys. Getting their request, the medical authorities retrieved his kidneys with the help of the State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (SOTTO).

According to sources, one of his kidneys will be transplanted to a patient at SCBMCH and the second one will be provided to a private hospital in Bhubaneswar for transplantation.

Om Sibu was a student of Kendrapara Autonomous College.

According to the decision of the Odisha government, the donor will be given state honour for the noble cause. The state home department, Kendrapara Collector and SP have been informed regarding it.
