Centre Slashes Petrol and Diesel Prices by ₹2 Per Litre

New Delhi: The Centre has announced a reduction in petrol and diesel prices by ₹2, effective from March 15 at 6 am, just weeks ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. Hardeep Singh Puri, the Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas announced the decision on X, emphasizing its impact on the welfare and convenience of crores of Indians.

Puri highlighted a significant price difference between fuel rates in India and other countries like Italy, France, Germany, and Spain, showcasing India’s comparatively lower prices. This move comes as a surprise after Puri’s earlier statement in January, where he ruled out any immediate price cuts due to high crude volatility.

The Ministry emphasized India’s commitment to maintaining stable fuel supply, affordable prices, and promoting green energy initiatives. The reduction in petrol and diesel prices is expected to stimulate consumer spending and reduce operating costs for over 58 lakh heavy goods vehicles running on diesel, 6 crore cars and 27 crore two-wheelers,

In Odisha, petrol prices will decrease from ₹103.19 to ₹101.19, and diesel from ₹94.76 to ₹92.76.
