PM Modi Defends Electoral Bonds Scheme, Denies Bias Amid Opposition Criticism

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed regret over the Supreme Court’s decision to scrap the electoral bonds scheme in February, stating that it has exacerbated the issue of black money in the country.

He defended the scheme, which aimed to curb the influence of unaccounted funds in elections, stating that it was never claimed to be perfect. PM Modi emphasized his government’s efforts to introduce transparency in political funding and criticized opposition parties for spreading misinformation about the scheme.

The Prime Minister highlighted that the electoral bonds scheme provided a trail of donations, with a significant portion going to the opposition parties.

He dismissed allegations of bias towards the ruling party and asserted that improvements have been made to ensure fairness in the electoral process.

PM Modi refuted claims of using central agencies for political vendettas, emphasizing that cases of corruption would be pursued regardless of political affiliation. He criticized the Congress party’s manifesto, accusing it of neglecting the country’s economic prospects and jeopardizing the future of young voters.

Regarding potential investment from Elon Musk’s Tesla, Inc., PM Modi welcomed the initiative but stressed the importance of incorporating local elements into the product. Musk is scheduled to meet with the Prime Minister later this month to discuss investment plans.
