Pregnant Elephant Dies After Falling Into Trench Dug by Forest Dept in Balasore Dist

Balasore: A pregnant elephant died after falling into a trench dug by the forest department to prevent the pachyderms from coming out of their jungle habitat towards the human settlements Kuldiha Sanctuary bordering Balasore and Mayurbhanh districts.

According to reports, the ill-fated female elephant fell into a ditch dug by the forest department in the Badapada area of Kaptipada forest range near Chemchata Beat of Kuldiha sanctuary on Monday.

Despite all efforts to rescue the elephant from the trench by using JCB machines, the wild elephant could not be saved. It was suspected that the elephant was starving and it died four hours after the rescue operation began.

According to the forest officials, the dead female elephant was pregnant and was aged more than 10 years.
