Ram Rahim Acquitted by High Court in Murder Case of Former Dera Official

Chandigarh: Punjab and Haryana High Court on Tuesday acquitted self-proclaimed godman and Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim in the murder case of a former Dera official.

The former manager of the Dera, Ranjit Singh, was murdered in 2002.

In 2021, a CBI court convicted Ram Rahim and four others and sentenced them to life imprisonment in this murder case. Ram Rahim had challenged this conviction in the high Court.

Ram Rahim is also convicted of raping two sadhvis at the Dera and in the murder case of journalist Ram Chander Prajapati. The Dera Sacha Sauda’s headquarters in Haryana’s Sirsa was in news after shocking allegations of sexual assault surfaced against Gurmeet Ram Rahim. In 2014, the Dera chief claimed he was impotent, but the court rejected his claim.
