Rape, Murder Convict Ram Rahim Gets Parole Again for 50 Days

New Delhi: Rape and murder convict Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, was again granted a 50-day parole to come out of jail. He is serving a 20-year jail sentence over the rape of two female disciples as well as life imprisonment in murder cases.

An interesting fact is that in 2023 he was granted parole thrice. He was last out of jail on a 21-day parole in November 2023.

The self-proclaimed godman Ram Rahim, has procured paroles to citing various reasons, including a plea to meet his ailing mother. Despite being convicted in rape cases and murders, he still has a following in Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh.

He was convicted in 2017 and was sentenced to a 20-year jail term in 2017 for raping two disciples. He was sentenced to life imprisonment in two murder cases, including the killings of journalist Ram Chander Chhatrapati and Dera Manager Ranjit Singh.

As per the Haryana Good Conduct Prisoners (Temporary Release) Act, 2022, convicted prisoners can be granted regular parole. However, prisoners convicted of multiple murders or under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act are not eligible for parole. It is astonishing how Ram Rahim can get frequent paroles while applications for parole of other prisoners remain pending for years.
