Priyanka to Make Electoral Entry from Raebareli, Rahul Aims to Reclaim Amethi

New Delhi: Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will make her poll debut from Raebareli, the party’s Uttar Pradesh stronghold, reported NDTV quoting sources.

Rahul Gandhi is expected to fight the Lok Sabha election from Amethi, where he lost to BJP’s Smriti Irani in 2019.

Rahul Gandhi is also expected to contest from Wayanad in Kerala; from where he won in 2019.

Priyanka Gandhi will enter electoral politics this year following her mother Sonia Gandhi’s announcement that she would not seek re-election from Raebareli. Sonia Gandhi won five times in the past from Raebareli.  She preferred to get elected to the Rajya Sabha from Rajasthan.

In Raebareli posters have come up urging the Congress to name Priyanka Gandhi Vadra as its candidate. “Take Congress’ development work forward, Raebareli is calling… Priyanka Gandhiji, please come,” the posters said.

The BJP has not yet announced its Raebareli candidate. In 2019, BJP’s Dinesh Pratap Singh was defeated by over 1.8 lakh votes in the constituency.

But BJP has decided to field Smriti Irani to defend her Amethi seat.
