Putin to Visit North Korea, Accepts Kim Jong Un’s Invitation

Russian President Vladimir Putin has accepted an invitation from Kim Jong Un to visit North Korea, reported Al Jazeera. Both leaders recently held a summit in Russia.

With enhancing ties with North Korea, Russia wants to strengthen itself in the conflict in Ukraine. Russia has promised to help in advancing North Korea’s military modernization and satellite program.

“Putin accepted the invitation with pleasure and reaffirmed his will to invariably carry forward the history and tradition of the Russia-DPRK friendship,” Al Jazeera reported North Korean state news agency KCNA.

Kim is expected to supply Moscow with weapons for its conflict in Ukraine in exchange for technology that would help him advance his military objectives.

North Korea launched two short-range ballistic missiles just before Putin and Kim’s meeting.
