Red Warning for Heavy Rains in 6 Odisha Districts

Bhubaneswar: Heavy rainfall is expected in several districts of Odisha because of the formation of a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal. The Regional Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar on Thursday issued a Red Warning for several districts of Odisha for heavy rains.

It has issued a rainfall warning for the following districts for today.

Red Warning: Scattered heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20 cm) with isolated extremely heavy (>20 cm) over the districts of Bolangir, Kalahandi, Sonepur, Bargarh, Nuapada and Sambalpur.

Orange Warning: Heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20 cm) very likely to occur at a few places over the districts of Nabarangpur, Kandhamal, Boudh, Cuttack, Deogarh, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Angul and Dhenkanal.

Yellow Warning: Heavy Rainfall (7 to 11 cm) very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Koraput, Nayagarh, Jajpur and Rayagada.

“Yesterday’s low pressure area became more marked today morning & now lies as a well marked low pressure area over Northwest Bay of Bengal & adjoining North Odisha-West Bengal coasts with the associated cyclonic circulation extends up to 7.6 km above mean sea level tilting southwestwards with height. It is likely to move across Odisha and Chhattisgarh during next 2 day,” the Meteorological Centre said.
