WATCH: 3 Labourers Critical as Crane Collapses at SCB Medical Construction Site

Cuttack: Three workers sustained critical injuries in a mishap at the under-construction second campus of SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack on Friday. The injured were rushed to the hospital by ambulance.

The incident occurred when a tower crane at the construction site collapsed from a height of approximately 100 feet, causing severe injuries to those on the ground. The injured include Mubarak Ansari from Bihar, Bansidhara and Dinabandhu Behera from Odisha. Additionally, eight others are feared to be trapped beneath the wreckage of the crane.

An eyewitness suggested that the crane might have collapsed due to an overload, leading to the accident.

The Odisha Government is developing the second campus of SCB Medical College to establish it as an AIIMS-plus facility.

Cuttack Mayor Subas Singh has expressed concern over the incident, stating that the matter will be addressed with the construction agency responsible for the project. An inquiry will be conducted to determine whether adequate safety measures were in place. Singh also highlighted that two of the injured have sustained head injuries and emphasised that worker safety should never be compromised.
