Sonia Gandhi to File Nomination for Rajya Sabha from Rajasthan

Jaipur: Senior Congress leader Sonia Gandhi travelled to Jaipur to file her nomination papers for the upcoming Rajya Sabha polls from Rajasthan.

She reached Jaipur with her son Rahul Gandhi and daughter Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.

Former Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot and other Congress leaders welcomed her at the Jaipur airport.

Sonia Gandhi will file her nomination papers in Rajasthan as the party is having the necessary number of MLAs in the state Assembly to get one candidate elected. It will be 77-year-old Sonia Gandhi’s first-time entry into the Upper House. She has already served five terms as a Lok Sabha MP.

So, it is evident that Sonia Gandhi, who represents the Rae Bareli constituency in the Lok Sabha is not interested to contest in the next Lok Sabha polls.

She became a Lok Sabha MP for the first time in 1999. A total of 56 members of Rajya Sabha from 15 states are retiring in April and the election to the seats will be held on February 27.

The last date for filing nominations is February 15.
