Spring-Loaded Fans to Check Student Suicides in Coaching Hub Kota

Kota: With the number of suicides in Rajasthan’s entrance exams coaching hub Kota reaching 22 by August this year, the local administration has come up with an unusual solution to combat the problem. As per the directive of the administration, spring-loaded fans are being installed in all hostels and paying guest (PG) accommodations in Kota.

It is being said that these spring-loaded fans will reduce deaths by hanging. If someone tries to hang himself from a spring-loaded fan, it will not enable him to do so. But this move is being mocked by social media users.

The latest suicide in Kota was of an 18-year-old student, who was found hanging at a rented accommodation on Tuesday night.

He was the fourth student to wend life in Kota within a month. In 2022, at least 15 cases of suicide by students were reported in Kota. Rajasthan High Court has also expressed concern over the rising suicides by students in Kota.
