21-Yr-Old Woman Fakes Own Kidnap To Extort Rs 30 Lakh from Parents to Travel Abroad

Kota: A 21-year-old woman allegedly faked her own kidnap to extort Rs 30 lakh from her parents as ransom to travel abroad, police here said on Wednesday.

The woman named Kavya is yet to be traced. Police investigation revealed that although her mother had left her to stay in a hostel and take coaching classes in Kota a year back, she spent only three days in Kota.

She was sending fake pictures and messages to dupe her parents into believing that she was still in Rajasthan’s coaching hub.

Recently, her parents living in Madhya Pradesh’s Shivpuri received a ransom demand of Rs 30 lakh and pictures of their daughter with her hands and feet tied.

On March 18, her father Raghuveer Dhakad registered a complaint with Kota police alleging that Kavya had been kidnapped.

The police immediately swung into action and it was revealed that the woman stayed in a hostel in Kota for three days and after her mother left her. Then she moved to Indore and had been living there ever since with her two male friends.

The woman kept her parents in the dark by sending them messages of class tests and her presence in classes in the name of the coaching institute.

Kavya and a friend of her wanted to flee abroad. To arrange money to travel abroad they staged the abduction drama to seek ransom. The woman clicked the pictures of her staged kidnapping in a common friend’s room. It has been found that Kavya was accompanied by her two friends to Jaipur on March 18.

The Kota police have appealed to the woman and her friend to report to a nearby police station or contact her worried parents.
