Wheel of Konark Sun Temple Now at New York’s Times Square

New Delhi: On the occasion of India’s Independence Day, a replica of the iconic wheel of the Konark Sun Temple in Odisha was unveiled at New York’s Times Square by the celebrity chef Vikas Khanna and Randhir Jaiswal, the Consulate General of India in New York.

Members of the Indo-American Arts Council and Indian-Americans gathered in huge numbers to witness the flag-hoisting ceremony and unveiling of the Konark wheel.

Artisans from Odisha’s Lalitagitri have handcrafted this Konark wheel replica made of sandstone. It weighs around 4,000 pounds.

The replica of the Konark wheel is being displayed as a symbol of unity between the Indian diaspora and America in Khanna’s upcoming New York City restaurant in 2024.

Konark Sun Temple was built by 12000 artisans in 12 years in the 13th century AD. This temple in the form of the chariot of the sun god is a Unesco-designated World Heritage Site. The wheels of this iconic temple represent time.
