Wild Elephant Tramples Couple to Death in Balangir Dist

Balangir: A couple was trampled to death by a wild elephant at Chabiripali village under Bhanpur panchayat in the Patnagarh-Harishankar forest range area in Balangir district on late Sunday night.

The deceased were identified as Nilambar Bariha (54) and his wife Yashovanti Bariha (50).

Nilambar and Yashovanti were sleeping in their house on Sunday night, when a stray wild elephant in search of food broke into their house and attacked them. The wild pachyderm trampled both of them to death on the spot.

Getting information, forest department personnel and police officials reached the spot and seized the bodies for post-mortem. The police have launched an investigation into the incident.
