Wild Elephant Tramples Peasant to Death in Banki

Bhubaneswar: A farmer was trampled to death by a wild elephant at Gayalaba village under Damapada block in Banki area of Cuttack district in the wee hours of Tuesday.

The deceased was identified as Manoranjan Sahu. He had gone to attend nature’s call when the stray wild pachyderm attacked him.

Receiving information, forest officials rushed to the spot to drive away the wild elephant. The angry villagers of Gayalaba, gheraoed the forest officials for some time, demanding compensation for the deceased’s family.

The villagers released the forest officials when they were assured the deceased’s wife would be given a job.
