Youth Arrested For Attempting to Immolate Executive Officer of Barbil Municipality

Keonjhar: A youth named Abhishek Gupta was arrested for allegedly attempting to burn down Barbil Municipality executive officer Abhishek Panda by pouring petrol on him in Barbil of Keonjhar district in Odisha on Monday.

Some staff of the Barbil municipality present at the spot managed to save the executive officer from the murder attempt.

According to eyewitnesses, Gupta made a sudden entry into the office chamber of the executive officer and poured around two litres of highly inflammable liquid on him.

Before Gupta could torch the executive officer, some staff present nearby overpowered the accused. The assailant was overpowered and handed over to the police.

Gupta is being interrogated by the police to ascertain the reason behind the attack. It is said that Gupta resorted to this violent attack because of alleged inaction of the Barbil municipality to remove encroachments on government land in front of his house.
