Pick-Up Van Overturns Injuring At Least 18 School Students in Gajapati Dist

Paralakhemundi: At least 18 students of Chheligada Government High School in Gajapati district were injured when the pick-up van in which they were travelling overturned at Champa Ghati in Odisha’s Gajapati district.

According to sources, the students of High School were returning back after attending a five-day sports event at the mini stadium in R Udayagiri. Students of the Chheligada Government High School were the champions of the event.

Their vehicle met with the accident while negotiating a curve on the ghat road. The driver of the vehicle absconded from the spot after the accident.

Fourteen of the injured were identified as Aseni Karji, Chakradhar Nayak, Sibaram Raita, Maheswar Pradhan, Sangram Mandal, Suresh Kumar Pradhan, Sumari Mandal, Bhushan Braja Mandal, Pintu Pradhan, Johan Raita, Bikram Dalabehera, Sagar Behera, Tapan Mandal and Abhaya Mandal.

Identities of the remaining four have not been ascertained yet. Two of the injured, Bikram and Tapan were shifted to the MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur as their condition deteriorated.
