Kalahandi: 2 Under-Trial Prisoners Escape Bhawanipatna Jail, Cops Lauch Manhunt

Bhawanipatna: In a major security breach, two under-trial prisoners (UTPs) escaped from the Bhawanipatna District Jail in Odisha’s Kalahandi district on Sunday morning.

The escapees, identified as Sikandar Jal and Nilamani Bibhar, were reportedly engaged in gardening work within the jail premises when they managed to scale the boundary wall and flee, according to reports.

Both Jal and Bibhar were arrested under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and lodged in the Bhawanipatna Jail.

Following the incident, the Bhawanipatna Town Police have launched an investigation to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the escape. Police teams are actively searching for the absconding UTPs and efforts are underway to apprehend them at the earliest.

This incident has exposed critical lapses in security measures at the Bhawanipatna District Jail, raising concerns about the overall prison administration.
