Leicestershire: An 80-year-old man of Indian origin has succumbed to injuries following an assault in eastern England. The incident occurred on September 1, around 6:30 PM, at Franklin Park in Braunstone Town, while the man, identified as Bhim Kohli was walking his dog.

Kohli, from Leicester, was rushed to a hospital but died the next day. A post-mortem confirmed death due to a neck injury, though additional tests are still awaited.

Police have launched a murder investigation and arrested five minors, including a 14-year-old boy and girl and two 12-year-old girls. The 14-year-old remains in custody, while the others have been released without further action. Leicestershire Police continue to probe the case.

Detective Inspector Emma Matts, the Senior Investigating Officer, stated, “With the victim’s death, this case has been elevated to a murder investigation. Our team is working diligently to uncover the details of the attack and understand the circumstances.”

Kohli’s daughter revealed to LeicestershireLive that her father was near his home when attacked. “He had a factory in Leicester before retiring. He leaves behind his two sons, daughter and two grandsons. This is a heartbreaking tragedy,” added neighbour Deep Kaila.

Meanwhile, Leicestershire Police continues to appeal for witnesses who were in the area between 6 PM and 6:45 PM on September 1 to come forward and provide any information that may assist in the investigation.
