Escapee Prisoner Kills Grandmother, Injures 2 in Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur

Jagatsinghpur: An under-trial prisoner who had been on the run for a year has committed a horrific crime in the Balikuda area of Jagatsinghpur district. The individual in question, identified as Jibanjyoti Sahu, had previously faced charges of raping a minor girl and had escaped from Alipingal jail in April 2022.

Reports reveal that Sahu recently visited his uncle’s residence in Gadeigiri, where he brutally attacked his own grandmother with a sharp weapon, resulting in her death. The motives behind this gruesome act are yet to be ascertained.

Sahu also targeted the residence of the minor girl he had previously assaulted. At this location, he attacked the girl’s mother and another relative. Both victims are presently undergoing medical treatment in a hospital.

The swift actions of the authorities led to the apprehension of Jibanjyoti Sahu. The investigation into these shocking incidents is currently underway. According to Balikuda Police Station’s IIC, Salil Pradhan, the accused has been detained, and the weapon used in the crimes has been confiscated.
