Fake Note Racket Busted in UP Madrasa, Principal from Odisha’s Bhadrak Among 4 Arrested

Prayagraj: A fake-note racket involved in printing high-quality counterfeit Rs 100 currency notes was busted at a madrasa in the Attarsuiya area in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh.

Four persons, including the acting principal of the madrasa, Mohammad Tafseerul Arifin have been arrested. According to police sources, Tafseerul is a native of Odisha’s Bhadrak district.

The Jamia Habibiya madrasa was raided by the police on August 28. Police seized fake notes worth Rs 1.3 lakh, semi-manufactured currency, a printer, and other materials used for counterfeiting from the spot.

Apart from Mohammad Tafseerul Arifin, the other accused arrested were Mohammad Afzal, Mohammad Shahid, and Zahir Khan alias Abdul Zahir. They were involved in scanning and printing fake 100-rupee notes. These notes were then circulated in the local market.

The accused were printing fake currency notes in the denomination of Rs 100, as people often do not carefully check the authenticity of smaller bills.

The acting principal, Tafseerul, had provided a room in the madrasa for the gang to print the counterfeits. Police are now searching for other accomplices involved in the racket.

The madrasa caters to students from West Bengal, Odisha, Bihar, and Jharkhand.
