Indian-Origin Assault Accused Shot Dead by Police in US

A 42-year-old man of Indian origin, who was wanted by police in a case of assault, was shot dead by the cops in San Antonio after he struck two officers with his vehicle while they were trying to nab him.

The accused identified as Sachin Sahoo died on the spot on April 21.

Sahoo hailed from Uttar Pradesh and it is reported that he may be a naturalised US citizen.

On April 21 evening, police received information about an aggravated assault at a home in Cheviot Heights in San Antonio. Upon arrival, officers found a 51-year-old female who had been intentionally struck by a vehicle. The suspect, Sahoo, had fled from the spot.

Several hours later, neighbours called the police to inform them that Sahoo had returned to the original location. When policemen tried to nab him, he attempted to escape by hitting two officers with his vehicle. One officer fired at Sahoo, who died on the spot.

Police Chief Bill McManus said that Sahoo had run over the woman, who was his roommate, with his vehicle.

A report in Kens5.com quoted Sahoo’s ex-wife Leah Goldstein as saying that Mr Sahoo was diagnosed with bipolar disorder along with symptoms of schizophrenia.
