T20 World Cup 2024: ICC, Host Nations Ramp Up Security Measures Amid Terror Threats

The upcoming Men’s T20 World Cup, co-hosted by the West Indies and the USA from June 1st to 29th, is facing heightened security concerns following reported terror threats. However, the International Cricket Council (ICC) and host countries are assuring fans of robust security measures.

In response to these reports, the ICC has engaged with local authorities, and Cricket West Indies has assured the implementation of a comprehensive security plan to mitigate any risks.

Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley of Trinidad & Tobago emphasized the ongoing efforts of security agencies to counteract potential threats to the tournament.

Matches will be held across several Caribbean islands including Barbados, Trinidad, Guyana, Antigua, St Lucia, and St Vincent. In the USA, venues include New York, Florida, and Texas. All locations are implementing enhanced security measures.

The tournament will see 20 teams divided into four groups of five for the first round. The top two teams from each group will progress to the Super Eight stage. Here, teams will be further split into two groups, with the top two from each advancing to the semi-finals scheduled for Guyana and Trinidad. The final will be held in Barbados on June 29th, with reserve days allocated for crucial matches.
