Superstitious Men Burn Woman to Death Suspecting ‘Witchdraft’ in Assam

Guwahati: A 30-year-old woman was injured with sharp weapons and burnt alive by her neighbour and his associates, who suspected her to be practising witchcraft in Assam’s Sonitpur district.

Four persons allegedly involved in the crime were arrested. Two other accused are still absconding.

The victim, identified as Sangita Kati of Nij Bahbari village, was attacked by a neighbour, Suraj Baghwar and some others he had called up from outside.

The attackers tied up her husband and later burnt her to death.

According to police sources, Baghwar had accused her of practising witchcraft against his family.
