Boney Kapoor Hints at Remake/Sequel of Mr India

Mumbai: Filmmaker Boney Kapoor hinted at the possibility of a sequel or remake of his 1987 blockbuster fantasy movie Mr. India.

He hinted at it on social media on the occasion of the 37th anniversary of the Anil Kapoor and Sridevi starrer.

“Wristwatch of invisibility still in orbit. It completes 37 years #MrIndia. Getting recharged to work the magic again,” Boney wrote on Instagram.

Mr. India tells the story of Arun Verma (Anil) who discovers a device that makes him invisible. With this power, he defeats the plans of the villainous Mogambo (Puri) to conquer India.

Mr. India was released on May 25, 1987 and it was the second highest-grossing film of that year after the Dharmendra-starrer Hukumat.

In 2011, Boney Kapoor announced a 3D sequel, Mr. India 2, which was to be released in November 2014. But the film was never produced due to the absence of Sridevi and Amrish Puri. Anil Kapoor later said that Sridevi’s death in 2018 and the absence of Amrish Puri, who died in 2005) affected the production.
