Renowned Malayalam Film Director Harikumar Dies of Cancer

Thiruvananthapuram: Well-known Malayalam cine director Harikumar breathed his last at a private hospital in the capital city of Kerala on Monday evening at the age of 70.

He was under treatment for cancer.

He started his movie career in 1981 with his first directed film “Ambal Poovu”. He hogged the limelight with “Sukurtham” (1994), based on the story by acclaimed author M.T. Vasudevan Nair and starring Mammootty. This film won two National awards – for the best Malayalam film and music direction.

Harikumar directed 16 films. His last movie was “Autorickshawkarente Bharya” (2022) written by award-winning author M.Mukundan.

He was a member of the National Film Awards jury in 2005 and 2008.

His funeral will be held in Thiruvananthapuram on Tuesday evening.
