3 Brigadier Generals Sentenced to Death in Myanmar for Surrendering Town to Rebels

Myanmar’s military government pronounced death sentences three brigadier generals who surrendered along with troops to hand over the strategic Laukkai town on the Chinese border to ethnic minority rebels in January 2024.

These three brigadier generals on death row include the commander of Laukkai town, reported AFP quoting an anonymous military source.

In January, hundreds of troops surrendered in Laukkai in northern Shan state of Myanmar before the Three Brotherhood Alliance. Following the surrender, the officers and their troops were allowed to leave the area.

The three brigadier generals were in military custody of Myanmar junta. Under Myanmar’s military law, leaving a post without permission can be punished by the death penalty.
