Congress to Release First List of 70 Candidates for Odisha Assembly Polls on March 1

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) announced today that the party will announce the first list of candidates for the upcoming 2024 Assembly elections on March 1st. This initial phase will see nominations revealed for 70 constituencies across the state.

The decision follows a crucial Pradesh Election Committee (PEC) meeting held earlier today, attended by all 23 PEC members and members of the All India Congress Committee (AICC). The meeting focused on strategizing ticket distribution amongst the 3,000+ aspirants who applied online through the party’s “Project Pragaman” portal for Assembly seats and 700+ applicants for Lok Sabha elections.

“We had in-depth discussions on candidate allocations for various constituencies,” shared OPCC President Sarat Pattanayak at a press conference after the meeting. “AICC members were also present, and the final list will be presented to the Screening Committee in Delhi for approval. The AICC will make the final call,” he added.

The ‘Project Pragaman’ initiative, launched by the state Congress unit, facilitated online applications from February 4 to 11, reflecting the party’s efforts to streamline the candidate selection process for the forthcoming elections.
