3 Killed as 14-Year-Old Opens Fire at Bangkok Mall, 2nd Mass Shooting in Thailand Within a Year

Bangkok: A 14-year-old gunman opened fire at a luxury shopping mall in downtown Bangkok on Tuesday, killing three people and injuring four others, police said.

The shooting occurred at around 4:20 PM local time inside the Siam Paragon mall, a popular tourist destination. Police apprehended the suspect within an hour of the incident.

The motive for the shooting is unclear, and it is unknown how the suspect obtained a firearm.

Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin has ordered a thorough investigation into the incident.

This is the second mass shooting in Thailand in less than a year. In January 2023, a former police officer killed 36 people, including 24 children, at a daycare centre in northeastern Thailand.

The shooting at Siam Paragon has raised concerns about gun violence in Thailand, a country with relatively stringent gun laws.
