British Cop Convicted for Mimicking Indian Woman’s Accent

A British policeman was convicted of gross misconduct for mimicking the Indian accent of a woman who made a call to report a hate crime in November 2022.

The accused Police Constable Patrick Harrison resigned from the West Yorkshire Police prior to a judgement by a misconduct panel, reported The Daily Mirror.

The panel found the cop guilty of imitating some of the phrases the caller had used in Indian accent, without realising that she was still on the phone line.

After hearing the derogatory comments by the Police Constable,  the woman reported about it to Islamophobia monitoring group, Tell MAMA (Measuring Anti-Muslim Attacks), a national project in UK recording anti-Muslim incidents across the country.

Harrison admitted his ‘unacceptable and inexcusable’ behaviour and accepted it breached the standards of professional conduct and amounted to gross misconduct.

Harrison told the panel that he was remorseful for his actions and offered to meet the caller to apologise in person.

The panel found that the erring cop was involved in behaviour which breaches the standard of professional behaviour relating to Authority, Respect and Courtesy and Equality and Diversity.
