UK Airline Asks 19 Passengers to Deboard Flight Due to Weight Constraints

Liverpool: UK-based airline EasyJet experienced a unique incident on July 5 during a flight from Lanzarote to Liverpool. Due to poor weather conditions and the aircraft’s weight, the plane was unable to take off as it was deemed too heavy. The scheduled departure time of 9:45 pm was delayed until 11:30 pm when the situation was resolved. Passengers were asked to voluntarily disembark from the aircraft to reduce its weight.

A passenger recorded a video in which the pilot explained the situation, expressing gratitude to all passengers for their cooperation. The pilot mentioned that the combination of the aircraft’s weight, the short runway in Lanzarote, and unfavourable winds made it impossible for the plane to take off. Safety being the airline’s priority, it was deemed necessary to lighten the aircraft’s load.

The pilot offered up to 20 passengers the opportunity to choose not to continue their journey to Liverpool that night. In return for their cooperation, EasyJet provided incentives of up to 500 euros per passenger. Ultimately, 19 passengers volunteered to disembark from the flight.

EasyJet confirmed the incident, stating that weight restrictions for weather conditions are a routine operational decision and essential for safety. In such cases, the airline requests volunteers to transfer to a later flight free of charge, as happened on this occasion. Compensation was provided to the volunteers in accordance with regulations. EasyJet reassured that passenger safety remains their utmost priority.

This incident serves as a reminder of the meticulous safety measures airlines undertake to ensure a secure and comfortable journey for passengers.
