Indian-Origin Student Killed In US, Roommate Held

Indiana: A 20-year-old Indian-origin student was killed in his dormitory in the US’s Indiana.

The deceased, identified as Varun Manish Chheda was found dead in McCutcheon Hall on the western edge of campus, the police said.

Reportedly, his roommate, Ji Min “Jimmy” Sha, 22, who is of Korean descent, has been taken into custody on a preliminary murder charge.

According to preliminary autopsy results, Chheda died of “multiple sharp force traumatic injuries,” and the manner of death was a homicide.

In a news conference, Purdue University Police Chief Lesley Wiete said she believes the attack was “unprovoked” and “senseless”, according to Fox News.

University President Mitch Daniels said Chheda’s death was “as tragic an event as we can imagine happening on our campus,” adding that “our hearts and thoughts go out to all of those affected by this terrible event”.
