BJP MP Tejasvi Surya Faces Legal Action Over Alleged Religious Vote Appeal

Bengaluru: A case has been filed against BJP’s Bengaluru South candidate and MP Tejasvi Surya for allegedly seeking votes on religious grounds.

The Karnataka Chief Electoral Officer issued a statement via social media platform X, citing Surya’s video wherein he purportedly sought votes on religious grounds. The case has been registered at the Jayanagar police station in Bengaluru.

Following his participation in the voting process, Surya spoke to reporters, expressing confidence in the BJP’s prospects. He asserted that surveys indicate the Congress party might not secure more than 30 seats in the Lok Sabha elections. Surya slammed the Congress for resorting to personal attacks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, claiming such tactics only bolster the BJP’s popularity.

Sowmya Reddy is the Congress candidate contesting against Surya in the Bengaluru South constituency.

Encouraging voter turnout, Surya emphasized the significance of democratic participation, particularly noting the increased participation of senior citizens. He urged young voters to exercise their franchise, stressing the importance of registering their voices in the democratic process.

Today was the voting day for Karnataka’s 14 constituencies as part of the second phase of the Lok Sabha elections, encompassing 88 constituencies across 13 states and Union Territories.

According to the Election Commission, the second phase witnessed over 15.88 crore individuals exercising their voting rights.
