Khaleda’s Party to Boycott Bangladesh General Elections

Bangladesh’s main opposition party, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), led by former PM Khaleda Zia officially declared to boycott the coming general elections.

The BNP has decided not to contest a single seat for the January 7 polls. The party stuck to its stand that it would not take part in any election with Sheikh Hasina in power.

The BNP and other opposition parties have held mass protests calling on Hasina to quit power and let a neutral government run the polls.

Other key opposition parties in Bangladesh have also said they will boycott the elections. These parties include the Jamaat-i-Islami and the Islami Andolon Bangladesh.
