Over 200 Ex Officials Killed in Afghanistan Since Taliban Took Over Power: UN

Despite the declaration of general amnesty for old enemies, over 200 former officials of Afghanistan’s former military, law enforcement and government have been killed since the Taliban took over, stated the UN mission in Afghanistan on Tuesday.

The mission recorded at least 218 extrajudicial killings with links to the Taliban from their takeover of Afghanistan in mid-2021 up to June.

In most cases, the targeted persons were detained by de facto security forces, before being killed,” the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) said.

According to UNAMA about half of the killings occurred in the four months after the Taliban took over and 70 were recorded in 2022.

UNAMA has also documented 800 incidents of human rights violations against former government employees and military.
