Russian Defence Min Meets Kim Jong Un of North Korea

Russia’s defence minister Sergei Shoigu and a Chinese delegation including a Politburo member are in North Korea to attend the 70th anniversary of the end of the Korean War celebrated in North Korea as “Victory Day”.

On Thursday, the North Korean government media reported that the Russian defence minister Sergei Shoigu accompanied the North Korean supreme leader Kim Jong Un to a defence exhibition that also featured several banned ballistic missiles.

These missiles were banned under U.N. Security Council resolutions.

The Russian visit hints at the possibility of more open support for North Korea by Russia, which is isolated by the West over its invasion of Ukraine.

North Korea has supported Russia’s Ukraine attack. White House alleged that North Korea has transported weapons including infantry rockets and missiles in support of Russia’s war. But North Korea and Russia deny the allegation.
