US Announces $1.2 Billion Military Aid For Ukraine

Washington:The United States on Tuesday announced that it would provide Ukraine with a $1.2 billion military aid package that would include air defence systems, ammunition, and funds for training.

According to a US official, Ukraine will receive 155 mm Howitzer ammunition, anti-drone ammunition, financing for satellite imagery, and various forms of training.

The package is funded by the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI), which enables the administration of President Joe Biden to purchase weaponry from the private sector rather than draw from American military depots.

Since Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022, the US has provided more than $36 billion in military assistance. The United States has taken the lead in promoting international assistance for Ukraine, organising contributions from other nations and immediately forming an international coalition to support Kyiv after the Russian invasion.

Further, Kyiv has asked for a number of supplies that its international allies have been hesitant to offer, including Patriot air defence systems and modern heavy tanks, which were eventually provided, as well as other supplies like Western fighter planes, which have not yet been committed.
